Grandma was an amazing hostess - and she had the trolly to prove it. Going round for a meal was always a formal affair, and an opportunity for her to crack out all of her finery. You could reliably expect a 3 /4 course dinner with Melon or Grandads amazing mushroom soup with garlic bread (always my personal favourite), a roast - Grandma made a mean roast potato, dessert - often served with whipped cream to be dispensed with a fancy silver spoon, AND a cheese board - this is where I developed my love for BabyBel cheese. And there was always Shloer and After Eight mints - brought to the table in a fancy silver holder - yes that's correct there is such a thing as a fancy silver After Eight holder! There was literally nothing Grandma didn't have or keep.
She was a great cook and loved to feed us.
I still smile when I think back on arriving at the house and hearing Grandma and Grandad bickering from the kitchen as one of them had inevitable interfered with something the other was overseeing, normally changing the temperature on the oven or hob.
