Grandma wasn't what could be described as a typical cuddly Grandma.  She was very matter of fact, sometimes to the point of being blunt.  She was however one of the strongest women I have ever had the privilege to know.  She had such a zest for life and such a positive attitude towards work and the things she loved to do with her time, be it swimming and tennis when she was younger or jigsaws and knitting in later years.


She loved to feed us at formal family dinners, with a batch of Jimmy Effort Cake or if you were really lucky with one of her famous bilberry pies (she was fab at making pastry), and she took little persuasion to crack open the sherry or a nice bottle of red.  She also never threw anything away - ever!  


It is impossible to capture all of the thoughts, feelings and memories I have of grandma but to me she was a rock star.  She had an immune system I am envious of (I'm not joking!), kicking everything that was thrown at her, even covid!  And anytime she felt unwell she still managed to be able to maintain a sense of positivity.  But most of all I will be eternally grateful to her for taking me in when I walked away from a (toxic) long term relationship and had nowhere to go, and now more than ever I am so grateful to have had that time with her.
